Distributors that hope to attract and retain the most qualified employees must invest in innovative training methods, according to Mary Jawgiel, program director, Industrial Careers Pathway, in The New Realities of Training.
New hires – especially millennials – "want more involvement" when it comes to training, says Jawgiel, and evolving your processes for developing them is critical for employee engagement and retention.
For example, younger employees often want tools that will enable them to become an expert in their position, not just access to general knowledge. Jawgiel suggests that distributors provide 24/7 online access to innovative training programs that use the latest technology and incorporate video.
"(Millennials) want to feel valued, they want to feel like they’re contributing,” she says. “Make it known to the employee when they come on board that they are important and that you are going to help them move up within your organization."
