Although many distributors require a login to view pricing on their e-commerce sites, showing a price without a login can increase new customers and orders, according to the results of MDM's distribution e-commerce survey conducted with Real Results Marketing in 2016 State of E-Commerce: E-Commerce Races to Maturity.
One of the main reasons distributors choose not to show pricing is uncertainty regarding which price to list due to differences between branches or customers. Assuming there are no contractual or regulatory restrictions, show the highest price structure to help avoid channel conflict, and make sure customers understand they must log in to see their specific pricing and to purchase using their account versus using a credit card.
Other barriers to showing prices online include insufficient technical infrastructure and trade conflicts, however these can usually be overcome with a combination of technology, training and process modifications.
