More distributors are moving away from the traditional home- or office-based tools to technology that offers portability and accessibility. But before taking this leap, make sure your infrastructure is designed to handle the load, says NetSuite's Roman Bukary in Part Three of the Emerging Technologies Series: Distributors Embrace Mobile Technology
Distributors often are viewed as delayed adopters of new technology, waiting until technology is taken for a test run before committing to the investment. But once you do commit to giving salespeople tablets, purchasing RF readers for the warehouse or unveiling an app for customers, make sure your company has the equipment and systems – including servers and Internet bandwidth – needed for everything to run smoothly.
“It will need to handle lots of queries all the time,” says Bukary, whose company NetSuite is a Web-based business software provider. If you're infrastructure isn't sound, all your efforts could be wasted. The tools won't be able to access the information.
As easy as it may seem to implement mobile capabilities at your organization, developing a sound infrastructure is one of the key things distributors must consider to make the transition successful.
