Building materials and construction provided the highest volume of deals in December, a fitting end to 2015 after the sector dominated M&A news most of the year.
Leading the way was Beacon Roofing Supply Inc., Herndon, VA, which made three acquisitions during the month. The company bought RCI Roofing Supply, Omaha, NE, a distributor of residential and commercial roofing and related products with five branches across Nebraska, Iowa and Colorado.
Then it acquired Roofing & Insulation Supply, Dallas, TX, which has annual sales of $70 million and 20 branches across New England, the Mid-Atlantic, the Southeast, the Upper Midwest, Texas and Colorado.
And just before the year ended, the company announced it had acquired Statewide Wholesale, Denver, CO, a distributor of residential and commercial roofing and related products.
Beacon, No. 4 on MDM's 2015 Market Leaders list for building materials and construction distributors, was matched by US LBM Holdings LLC, Green Bay, WI, which also was acquisitive during the month.
The company agreed to acquire Texas-based Parker's Building Supply, which operates 18 locations throughout Texas and an additional four units in Southern California.
And it acquired five companies under the common ownership of NexGen, Britton, SD. The NexGen companies, which will continue to operate with their current names, are Truss Pro’s Inc., Britton, SD; Precision Wall Systems; Minnesota Building Pros, Rogers, MN; Britton Home Center, Britton, SD; and Webster Home Center, Webster, SD.
Also, in the building materials and construction sector, Boise Cascade agreed to buy the engineered lumber business of Georgia-Pacific, Atlanta, GA, for $215 million.
