B2B distributors were very well represented on the 2024 edition of “America’s Richest Self-Made Women” List from Forbes, with leaders from ABC Supply and Uline taking the No. 1 and 5 spots on the annual feature.
At No. 1 was Diane Hendricks, the Chairwoman of ABC Supply — one of the largest distributors of roofing, siding and windows in the U.S.
The publication lists Hendricks’ current net worth at $20.9 billion — nearly double that of No. 2 Judy Love of convenience store and travel stop chain Love’s.
Hendricks, 77, co-founded ABC Supply with her late husband Ken in Beloit, WI in 1982. She has chaired the firm since his death in 2007.
Under her direction, ABC Supply made its two biggest acquisitions in its history — Bradco in 2010 and L&W Supply in 2016.
ABC Supply had a 2023 revenue of $20.4 billion and 900 branch locations nationwide.
Forbes noted that Hendricks has spent millions on local economic development, rebuilding entire blocks in Beloit and bringing in several new businesses to Wisconsin.
At No. 5 on Forbes’ list is Elizabeth Uihlein, President of shipping, packaging and industrial supplies distributor Uline. The publication lists her current net worth as $6.7 billion.
Like ABC Supply, Uline is headquartered in southern Wisconsin in Pleasant Prairie.
Uihlein, 78, and her husband Richard started Uline in their basement in 1980. Today, the company has 8,500 employees and an estimated $8 billion in 2023 revenue, according to Forbes.
Forbes cites FEC filings in noting that the Uihleins have donated about $280 million over the years to conservative candidates in federal elections, making them one of the U.S. top political campaign donors.
For context, celebrities Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Rihanna and Taylor Swift ranked 14th, 21st, 23rd and 24th, respectively, with net worth of $3 billion, $1.7 billion, 1.4 billion and $1.3 billion.
