McLane Company Inc. a Temple, TX-based
grocery and foodservice distributor, has acquired wholesale distributor
McCarty-Hull, Inc. The transaction closed March 24, 2006.
McCarty-Hull is a $100 million distributor
of grocery, tobacco and sundry products to convenience and grocery retailers. It
serves chain customers as well as small independent retailers in a four-state
service area centered around their primary distribution center in Amarillo,
TX.
As a wholly owned subsidiary of McLane
Company, McCarty-Hull will continue to operate under the name McCarty-Hull and
will continue to be headquartered in Amarillo, TX. The current management team,
under the leadership of Bill McCarty and Joe Bowlin, will remain in place and
business operations will continue as usual.
Jim Kent, executive vice president of
administration at McLane, believes that the operations and management philosophy
of McCarty-Hull are an excellent fit for McLane. ‘We believe that combining the
financial resources of McLane with the hands-on management style of McCarty-Hull
will be a win-win for everyone, especially the customers,’ Kent said.
McCarty-Hull is the second of two recent
acquisitions in Texas. McLane purchased C.D. Hartnett, a wholesale distribution
company with $230 million in sales, in late 2004.
McLane Company Inc. provides
distribution services throughout the United States, delivering food and non-food
products to more than 50,000 customer locations, including the convenience
store, drug store, mass merchandise, quick service restaurant and movie theater
industries. The company operates 19 grocery distribution divisions and 18
