Days after releasing a sustainability report outlining emission reduction and energy commission initiatives, specialty construction supplies and safety product distributor White Cap announced its commitment to purchase the majority of the annual energy generated by a new solar facility.
White Cap signed a 10-year Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) with a 114 MW-capacity solar facility under construction in Lamar County, Texas, about 90 miles northeast of Dallas. The financial transaction supports the development of new renewable energy generation assets.
The project is anticipated to begin and reach commercial operations in 2025, subject to customary risks associated with construction project timelines.
“As the largest North American distributor of specialty construction supplies with approximately 450 locations and 10,000 employees, White Cap has a responsibility to minimize our environmental impact,” White Cap CEO Alan Sollenberger said in a June 20 news release. As part of its commitment to creating more sustainable sustainability, White Cap has invested in internal projects and processes to reduce emissions and energy use and retrofitted several facilities with energy-efficient LED lighting.
White Cap ranked three times on MDM’s 2024 Top Distributors Lists, coming in at No. 11 in industrial supplies, No. 8 in building materials/construction, and No. 7 in safety.
