Electrical distributor Wesco International issued its annual Sustainability Report on May 30, which outlines the company’s progress and key initiatives for advancing its environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals set in the 2021.

Those goals include reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 30%; reducing landfill waste intensity by 15% across global locations; achieving a 15% reduction in total recordable incident rate (TRIR); and providing 425,000 hours of safety training and development to employees — all by 2030.

Wesco said it has achieved significant progress toward those goals. The company detailed that it has already met its landwill waste reduction goal and is on track to meet its safety training and development goal. Wesco added that 2023 marked a major expansion in the reporting coverage of its scopes 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory globally from our previous reports which only reflected GHG emissions in the U.S., Canada and the U.K.

“Our journey toward sustainability is ongoing, and we remain committed to continuous improvement,” Wesco Chairman, President and CEO John Engel said in a news release. “We recognize that collaboration is key to success, and we are actively engaging with our stakeholders to learn, share best practices, and drive collective action.”

Wesco had 2023 total sales of more than $22 billion. It operates nearly 800 branches, warehouses and sales offices across more than 50 countries and has approximately 20,000 employees.
