Lock maker Master Lock announced it will lay off more than 300 workers at its Milwaukee plant between November of this year and March 2024, according to a notice filed with the state of Wisconsin.
In a document filed earlier this month, the company said it would begin termination procedures at the plant on Nov. 3, with up to 325 workers being laid off by March 29, 2024. The company said the closure is “a business decision and not in any way a reflection of our employees in Milwaukee.”
Master Lock’s Milwaukee location has been in operation for nearly a century. In May, the company said it would be closing the manufacturing facility for good, according to news station WTMJ.
Saint-Gobain Announces PFAS-Related Closure
France-based building materials manufacturer Saint-Gobain announced it is closing its Merrimack, New Hampshire facility.
The news arrives less than a week after the plant was approved for a new permit that would have allowed Saint Gobain to operate in Merrimack through 2028, according to NPR Hew Hampshire.
The closure is part of a restructuring of the company’s Composite Solutions business in the U.S., which creates “high-performance, technology-driven materials.” About 164 employees will be affected by the closure, the company said.
The plant has been the focus of a years-long controversy over PFAS contamination in nearby air and water.
“Saint-Gobain said it will continue working with state regulators on ongoing environmental investigation and remediation efforts, and will continue providing bottled water and permanent water alternatives for people affected by contamination within the area of its consent decree,” NPR Hew Hampshire reported.
