Drug wholesaler McKesson Corp. reportedly is planning to make a $5.4 billion offer for rival Celesio AG, based in Germany, according to a report from the The Wall Street Journal.
Celesio is one of Europe’s largest drug distributors. According to the WSJ report, the acquisition would bolster McKesson’s purchasing power with global drug makers, especially for generics. It would also increase its ability to enter Brazil, Russia and China and other fast-growing markets.
