Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced Nov. 29 the launch of its new cloud application, AWS Supply Chain. The app aims to help “businesses increase supply chain visibility to make faster, more informed decisions that mitigate risks, save costs and improve customer experiences,” according to a news release.

The provider of on-demand cloud computing platforms detailed that AWS Supply Chain automatically combines and analyzes data across multiple supply chain systems, allowing businesses to observe their operations in real-time, find trends more quickly and generate more accurate demand forecasts. AWS draws upon nearly 30 years of Amazon.com logistics network experience to provide a unified “data lake,” machine-learning-powered insights, recommended actions and in-application collaboration capabilities.

Using AWS Supply Chain’s built-in connectors, customers can set up a data lake, which the company said provides businesses a real-time visual map highlighting current inventory selection and quantity at each of their locations. Users can view insights for potential inventory shortages or delays and can receive alerts as such risks appear.

“Once a risk is identified, AWS Supply Chain will automatically provide recommended actions to take, such as moving inventory between locations, based on the percentage of risk resolved, the distance between facilities, and the sustainability impact,” the release said.

The app also features a chat function so teams can collaborate to solve problems.

“Customers tell us that the undifferentiated heavy lifting required in connecting data between different supply chain solutions has inhibited their ability to quickly see and respond to potential supply chain disruptions,” AWS Supply Chain Vice President Diego Pantoja-Navajas said. “AWS Supply Chain aggregates this data and provides visual, interactive dashboards that provide the insights and recommendations customers need to take actions toward more resilient supply chains.”
