The U.S. Census Bureau said advance estimates of retail and food services sales for January — adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences but not for price changes — were $649.8 billion, an increase of 3.8% from the previous month and 13% above January 2021.
Total sales for the November 2021 through January 2022 period were up 16.1% from the same period a year before. The November 2021 to December 2021 percent change was revised from down 1.9 % to down 2.5%.
Retail trade sales were up 4.4% from December 2021, and up 11.4% above last year. Gasoline stations were up 33.4% from January 2021, while food services and drinking places were up 27.0% from last year, the Census Bureau said.
