Grainger (NYSE: GWW), Chicago, IL, reported sales for August declined 2 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Results for the month included a 3 percentage point decline from unfavorable foreign exchange and a 1 percentage point increase from acquisitions.
Excluding acquisitions and foreign exchange, organic sales were flat, consisting of 1 percentage point from volume offset by a 1 percentage point decline in price.
U.S. segment sales were flat year-over-year and Canadian segment sales were down 22 percent, 7 percent in local currency. Other businesses segment sales increased 6 percent compared to August 2014, or 23 percent in local currency.
