Grainger (NYSE: GWW), Chicago, IL, reported daily sales for August increased 4 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Results for the month included a 3 percentage point contribution from Cromwell Group (Holdings) Ltd, acquired Sept. 1, 2015, and a 1 percentage point increase from favorable foreign exchange.
Excluding acquisitions and foreign exchange, organic sales were flat consisting of a 1 percentage point contribution from sales of seasonal products offset by a 1 percentage point decline in price.
U.S. segment sales were up 1 percent year-over-year and Canadian segment sales were down 14 percent, 16 percent in local currency. Other businesses segment sales increased 42 percent compared to August 2015, or 36 percent in local currency.
