October construction spending was $908.4 billion,* 0.8 percent above the September estimate and 5.3 percent above the October 2012 estimate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
During the first 10 months of 2013, construction spending was $747 billion, 5 percent above the same period in 2012. Spending on private construction was $625.7 billion, 0.5 percent below September.
Residential construction was $326.9 billion in October, 0.6 percent below the September estimate. Nonresidential construction was $298.9 billion in October, 0.5 percent below the September estimate.
In October, public construction spending was $282.7 billion, 3.9 percent above the September estimate. Educational construction was $64 billion, 8.5 percent above the September estimate. Highway construction was $83.3 billion, 0.6 percent above the September estimate.
