McMaster-Carr is set for a major expansion in Texas in the form of a new Fort. Worth regional headquarters that the MRO supplies distributor just received approval for.

On Aug. 22, the Fort Worth City Council approved an incentives package for the eCommerce-based distributor’s new $360 million HQ and distribution center, to be built on a 117-acre site just ease of Alliance Airport on the city’s north side.

The project is set to create at least 250 full-time jobs with an average salary of at least $85,000.

MDM’S SHIFT Conference, held Sept. 18-20 in Denver, brings together distribution leaders to learn and network across topics of sales & marketing, digital transformation, data analytics and talent management. Find more info here.

The Economic Development Program Agreement reached includes $18 million in grant funds to McMaster-Carr, which conducted a competitive site selection process for the location that will become its sixth regional headquarters and distribution facility. The privately-held company’s other DCs are in Los Angeles, New Jersey, Atlanta and Cleveland.

Founded in 1901 and based in Elmhurst, Illinois, McMaster-Carr was No. 11 on MDM’s 2023 Top Industrial Distributors List, and No. 3 for MRO distributors behind Grainger and Motion.

Local news reports included a statement by company Vice President Patrick McKenna saying: “By establishing distribution operations and holding a broad inventory in Fort Worth, we will provide our customers throughout the thriving Dallas-Fort Worth region a new level of fast delivery.”

While an expected opening date for the facility wasn’t given, city documents show the Economic Development Program Agreement reached includes a commitment from McMaster-Carr to:

  • Invest a minimum of $180 million in construction costs supporting property improvements by Dec. 31, 2028
  • Invest a minimum of $180 million for business personal property by Jan. 1, 2029
  • Create a minimum of 150 full-time jobs by Dec. 31 of the first operating year
  • Create a minimum of 250 full-time jobs by Dec. 31 of the sixth operating year
  • The average salary of those full-time jobs must be a minimum of $85,000.

McMaster-Carr has been notoriously tight-lipped about sharing company details over the years. It’s website states that the distributor carries an online inventory of over 700,000 products and that 98% of products ordered ship from stock and are delivered the same or next day.
