Global distributor Bunzl plc has acquired W.K. Thomas and Industrial Supplies from W.K. Thomas & Co Limited, and Industrial Supplies UK Limited.
 
W.K. Thomas is a distributor in the UK of foodservice products, particularly to customers in the catering and airline sectors. Industrial Supplies is engaged in the distribution of cleaning and hygiene products throughout the East of England. The aggregate revenue of the businesses in the year ended Dec. 31, 2008 was about £35 million.

Global distributor Bunzl plc reported sales for 2008 were £4.18 billion (US$6.04 billion), an increase of 17% over 2007 sales. Profit improved 9.3% to £142.2 million (US$206.7 million).
 
Sales in North America increased 12% due to stronger organic growth and a strengthened American dollar in the second half of the year. Acquisitions drove sales in the U.K. and Ireland up 11%. Sales in continental Europe grew 34%.
 
The Group once again had a successful year in 2008 due to a combination of organic growth, the positive acquisition impact in both new and existing geographies and the benefit of currency translation, Chief Executive Michael Roney said. Bunzl plc released a pre-close statement today for the year ending Dec. 31, 2008. The distributor reported: 

  • Group revenue growth is consistent with expectations, despite economic conditions, particularly in the UK and the eurozone. The stronger U.S. dollar and euro have had a positive impact on performance.
  • In North America, Bunzl saw stronger organic growth in the second half, but this growth was partially offset by margin pressure.
  • In the UK and Ireland, revenue has growth thanks to acquisitions. Integration of 2007 and 2008 acquisitions is going to plan.”
  • Revenue in Continental Europe has continued to grow thanks to both acquisitions and organic growth.

U.K.-based Bunzl plc, the international distribution and outsourcing group, reported sales for the third quarter ended Sept. 27, 2008, increased 15% compared to the same period a year ago.

Bunzl plc has acquired the business of Tec Products Co. Inc., a private company based in New Jersey. Tec Products is a supplier of jan/san and associated products through redistributors. Revenue in the year ended Dec. 31, 2006, is estimated at $14 million.

Bunzl has also purchased Westgate Sales Corporation and Westgate Canada Ltd., also based in New Jersey with facilities in Ontario and Alberta, Canada. Westgate supplies personal protection equipment through redistributors in the eastern U.S. and Canada. Revenue in the year ended Dec. 31, 2006, is estimated at US$18 million.
