April Wholesale Revenues Rise 8.8%

April 2007 sales of merchant wholesalers, except manufacturers’sales branches and offices, after adjustment for seasonal variations and trading-day differences but not for price changes, were $351.9 billion, up 1.3 percent from the revised March level and were up 8.8 percent from the April 2006 level. The March preliminary estimate was revised upward $1.1 billion or 0.3 percent.

April sales of durable goods were up 0.8 percent from last month and were up 7.8 percent (+/-2.0%) from a year ago. Compared to last month, sales of hardware, and plumbing and heating equipment and supplies were up 2.7 percent.

Private equity firm Audax Group has acquired industrial rubber distributor Lewis Goetz and Company Inc., Pittsburgh, PA. Lewis-Goetz operates from 48 locations throughout the U.S. and Canada.

JVA Partners has acquired Kennedy Manufacturing Company, Van Wert, OH. Kennedy manufactures industrial tool storage products and medical carts.

Applied Merges MRO, Fluid Power Catalogs

Applied Industrial Technologies, Cleveland, OH, distributor of bearings and related products, has combined its Applied Maintenance America and Fluid Power Connection catalogs, as well as added more than 10,000 new and expanded products. Dana Corp. to Sell Fluid Products Businesses

Dana Corporation, Toledo, OH, received approval from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York to sell two businesses that make up its fluid products unit.
&nbsp ;
Its fluid products hose and tubing business will be sold to Orhan Holding A.S., a Turkish industrial firm and joint-venture partner of Dana. Orhan will pay $85 million.
&nbsp ;
Dana’s coupled products business will be sold to Coupled Products Acquisition LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wanxiang (USA) Holdings Corporation.
&nbsp ;
Dana expects to close the sale of both businesses by the end of July 2007.

Austin Hardware Acquires Fastener Distributor

Austin Hardware and Supply, Inc. has acquired JPC Specialties, a supplier of standard and specialty fasteners in Philadelphia, PA. The acquired firm will continue operations from its Philadelphia location under the name JPC Fasteners, an Austin Hardware Company.

Mark Dudenhoeffer, president of Austin Hardware, said the acquisition broadens Austin’s product line; before the acquisition, the distributor was supplying fasteners on a limited basis. Platinum Equity Buys Weyerhaeuser’s Wholesale Centers in Canada

Platinum Equity, Los Angeles, CA, has purchased Weyerhaeuser Company’s wholesale products distribution centers in Canada and established the distribution business as a standalone company named Broadleaf Logistics Company.

Broadleaf distributes a wide range of building materials, including engineered wood products, oriented strand board, panels, framing lumber, and plywood panels; appearance grade and other cedar products; and specialty products such as exterior siding, insulation, rebar, and roofing.

Bossard Sales Up 6.7% in First Four Months

The Bossard Group, a global fastener distributor based in Switzerland, reported sales were up 6.7% in the first four months of 2007 compared with the same period a year ago.

The distributor saw broadly based growth in Europe but sales in the U.S. fell by 10.9%. Bossard reported it had expected this decline, which confirmed a decrease in production previously announced by its customers. Sales in Europe grew 18.5% in local currency. All regions reported double-digit growth.

Overall sales for the first four months were (Swiss franc) CHF 204.1 million (US$167.7 million). Sales in the U.S. were CHF 60.7 million (US$49.8 million). Sales in Europe were CHF 117.6 million (US$96.6 million), and in Asia were CHF 25.8 million (US$21.2 million).
