The United States Postal Service awarded parcel delivery giant UPS a contract to become its primary air cargo provider and move the majority of USPS air cargo in the U.S.
The contract — which replaces its partnership with FedEx — “greatly expands” the existing relationship between the two organizations, according to an April 1 announcement.
There will be a transition period, but the contract is effective immediately.
Earlier this year, UPS announced plans to close several hundred U.S. facilities amid the company’s ongoing shift to having automated sorting facilities handle more volume and the cut of 12,000 jobs.
