The U.S. Census Bureau shared its monthly wholesale trade statistics for December 2023 sales and inventories on Feb. 8
Sales
The report showed that December sales for merchant wholesalers (except manufacturers’ sales branches and offices, seasonally adjusted, but not for price), were $670.9 billion — up 0.7% from the revised November figure and up 1.6% year-over-year. November’s month-to-month figure was revised from the preliminary estimate of unchanged to down 0.1%.
Inventories
The report showed that December total inventories of wholesalers were $897.2 billion — up 0.4% from the revised November figure and down 2.7% year-over-year. The December month-to-month figure was unrevised from the advance estimate of up 0.4%.
Inventories/Sales Ratio
The report showed that the December inventories-to-sales ratio for wholesalers was 1.34, down from 1.40 of a year earlier.
